“Cinema is the most beautiful fraud,” said Jean-Luc Godard. It takes us on a journey and conveys experiences and all kinds of emotions. It entertains and puzzles us. So, we can easily say that “Cine-magic: From the silver screen into our hearts” actually exists. Because of its diversity in terms of film genres and themes, the art of cinema is suitable for all tastes, which is why it is loved by the whole world. It is so beloved that it has become an integral part of our entertainment. Εspecially today, with the new possibilities offered by the innovative film and series platforms with which cinema has now entered our homes, becoming more accessible than ever.
Silver screen’s magic
However, it is hard to refute the idea that going to the cinema is the authentic, full experience to enjoy and get truly immersed in a movie. The art of cinema expresses the collective spirit of our time. It is our mirror and therefore rightfully deserves the corresponding ritual of watching a film in the cinema.
There is the giant screen that fills your horizon by demanding your attention. It is the sounds from all corners of the theater that engulf you; the smells of the snacks that accompany you. It is the sense of collectivity inherent in the process of watching a film, laughing, getting angry, being moved together with other people, as well as the romance of being immersed into a glowing screen, in a darkened room among strangers. The recent discussion that opened up about the old cinemas in Athens, reminded us that these spaces are not to be taken for granted and that they need our support. They are the places where the art of cinema practically began, and only there can anyone still experience it authentically and artistically.
The cinema of Poros
On Poros, every summer, we have the opportunity to enjoy many movies that we may have missed during the year, as well as many new releases, at Cine Diana, an open-air cinema, with a unique view that makes it definitely worthwhile to visit. Counting decades of operation, it is an entertainment venue on the island that has been loved by young and old, as well as by visitors who may be experiencing the open-air cinema for the first time. The rooftop terrace above the Poros promenade, with its cool breeze, is an oasis even on the hottest summer days.
Apart from the cinema of Poros, there is Katheti’s Screenings Group, at which we watch together Greek short films with English subtitles, followed by constructive discussion. It is an interactive experience where immersion in the film becomes a collective process of exchanging ideas. The discussion enriches the experience of watching and creates a framework for creative dialogue on social issues, promoting awareness and the development of critical thinking.
In June at Cine Diana, you will enjoy an exquisite “Cinema Festival with acclaimed documentaries and short films“ during Poros Arts Festival! So, don’t miss the opportunity to explore your love for cinema in our region. Let yourself be captivated by “Cine-magic: From the silver screen into our hearts”. It will be an unforgettable experience!
