Exhibition “Sotiris Tavern”

2 August 24

The time has come to revive and pay tribute to Sotiris Kerras’ tavern “Sotiris” in Pounta, which from May 2023 has become Katheti’s new home. The past of the historic tavern will pass before our eyes through stories, photos by Vassilis Kolokythas and the objects found inside the tavern, which had been closed for 15 years. The opening of the exhibition will take place on Friday 26 July at 8 pm along with the opening of the painting exhibition “One More Thought” by George Klirodotakos and the “Pounta Festival”. The exhibition “Sotiris Tavern” will be hosted at Katheti’s ground floor from July 26 to September 19, daily from 7:00 to 11:00 pm.

Kerras’ tavern has been a point of reference for Poros and the surrounding area. Many locals have a story to tell about the tavern, the unforgettable evenings they spent there, as well as the important people who ate at its tables. What made the tavern stand out was its owner’s amazing collection, which included Navy uniforms and coats of arms, antiques, paintings and many other items. Beloved and known for his creative spirit, Sotiris Kerras created something that in simple words can be described as an art gallery. Urban legend has it that this is where Yannis Tsarouchis was inspired to design his famous sailors.

Katheti supports and highlights the local community and its history. In the past we have organized the photography exhibition “Sotiris Tavern”, the art exhibition “Bridges”, the amateur theatrical performance “Passage”, which was the outcome of the workshop “Theatrical Recording of Poros & Troizinia-Methana”, as well as the most recent photography exhibition of Fotis Metaxas’ photos titled “Waterline“. At the same time, Katheti develops collaborations with local institutions and organizations, while promoting local artists.
