Group Painting Exhibition “Dialogues”
The landscapes of Poros and Cornwall converse with abstract dualistic concepts under the golden light of the full moon. Paintings by George Klirodotakos, Pamela Jane Rogers and Mara Dimopoulou compose the group exhibition “Dialogues”. The exhibition will be hosted at Katheti’s 1st floor from September 6 to 18, daily from 8:00 to 11:00 pm. The opening will take place on Friday 6 September at 8:00 pm.
Three painters with unique paths and artistic journeys return to their common point of reference, Poros, conversing through their works. The paintings of the folk painter George Klirodotakos meet the en plain air creations of Pamela Jane Rogers and the full moon cities of Mara Dimopoulou. Reflections inspired by the sea, the vivid depiction of Poros and golden circles of transformation compose through different styles a rich cultural mosaic, highlighting local artistic expression.
In the past, Katheti has organized the painting exhibition “The Seabed and its Inhabitants” by Ivi Gabrielides, “From Poros to Cornwall” by George Klirodotakos, as well as the painting exhibition “The Colours of the World” by Gina and Christos Papadopoulos. In addition, last summer, Katheti organized, in collaboration with the Municipality of Poros, the exhibition of mixed visual arts “Transformations” as part of the Poros Arts Festival.
Artist’s Bios
George Klirodotakos
George Klirodotakos paints seascapes and overall themes from nature with watercolor on paper. He started painting in the 1970s in Cornwall, which he visited almost every winter for about 20 years, until 2000. Cornwall’s landscapes captivated and inspired him, and in the summer, he painted landscapes of Poros. His other great love is dancing. He has been dancing traditional Greek dances since he was 24 and, through this hobby, he has travelled the world, made friends, met important people and collaborated with them. He participated in theater plays, TV series and Greek films, with the most notable being the film “Operation Apollo” (1968), with Elena Nathanail and Thomas Fritz, directed by George Skalenakis. In the summer of 2023, George Klirodotakos presented his artwork through the painting exhibition “From Poros to Cornwall” and participated in the group painting and photography exhibition that took place as part of the “Lemon Tree Festival“.
Pamela Jane Rogers
Pamela Jane Rogers graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Greensboro from North Carolina. After five years of working in the field of interior design, she devoted herself completely to painting. She was leading painting and art theory classes at Arts Centers and Community Colleges when she met the renowned artist Jaquelin Jenkins and began painting “en plein air”. After their extraordinary two weeks in Greece in 1982, Pamela Roges took figure studies at the Arts Student League in New York 1986. The next year she got accepted for her first residency for landscape painting at the Vermont Studio Colony. 1989 was a pivotal year for Pamela Rogers, as it coincided with her first unexpected stay on the island of Poros and her decision to move here the following year “for a few years of painting”. Along with her artistic activities, she ran an educational program in Greece for graduates from the United States, she illustrated many books about Greece and wrote her memoire in 2015 titled “Greekscapes: Illustrated Journeys with an Artist”.
Mara Dimopoulou
Mara Dimopoulou was born in 1990 on Poros and studied at the University of Western Macedonia in the Department of Fine and Applied Arts in Florina since 2010. Since 2011 she has participated in group exhibitions all over Greece, and in 2015 she took part in the watercolor biennial Castra, in Slovenia. In 2014 she held her first solo exhibition entitled “Conversation 1: Ritsos’ Scattered Sonata on watercolor paper” at Goose Art Cafe.
