Sports Psychology Seminar for Athletes and Coaches

26 November 22

Sport activities and exercise are important elements of our life. In our region, most of the kids participate in sports like track and field, football, basketball and gymnastics. In addition, the topography of our region also facilitates for sports like triathlon, rowing and kayaking. For children, sports and exercise offer a way of learning new motor skills and socially interacting with their peers. For adults, it’s a way to release pressure and a fun time away from their daily problems. Although by doing sports we exercise our body, oftentimes the mind falls behind. We work physically hard and we forget our mental health. Until now, it has not been explained to us well that athletes that reach their goals, that win medals and trophies, are the mentally toughest and not always the strongest of fastest. For this reason, Katheti offers a Sport Psychology Seminar for Athletes and Coaches, aiming at closing the gap between the physical and the mental improvement of younger as well as adult athletes of our region.

The seminar

Psychological skills training (PST) refers to the systematic and consistent practice of mental or psychological skills for the purpose of enhancing performance, increasing enjoyment, or achieving greater sport and physical activity self-satisfaction. The two-day (8 hours in total) seminar is going to cover four major sports psychology topics:

  • Goal setting
  • Imagery
  • Self-talk
  • Relaxation techniques

The instructor

Tasos Rodis is a sports and exercise scientist, holding a European Master’s degree in Medical Sciences with a specialization in Sports Psychology (Lund Universitet, Sweden and University of Leipzig, Germany). He has also completed a BSc in Sport Sciences (University of Portsmouth, UK) and an MSc in Applied Exercise Physiology (University of Bangor, Wales, UK). He is a highly motivated, dynamic individual, with a career in sports, exercise and health that spans over more than 20 years. He has worked as a Sports Psychologist with elite Swedish swimmers. He has also efficiently collaborated as an Exercise Physiologist with Panathinaikos football club and worked with elite athletic teams, individual athletes as well as patients with musculoskeletal injuries and cardiac problems. For the past six months, he has been working at Katheti as a Programs Assistant.

Katheti supports sports activities and events taking place in our area.  For Katheti, sports, among other things, mean health, fun, communication, noble rivalry, discipline, friendship, respect. This is why Katheti co-organized the 1st Methana Crossing in October 2022 together with Volcanotrails.gr. Katheti also organized both the “Athlesis” photo exhibition and the “Sokakia” game, where youth from Belgium wondered in the alleys of Sfairia. Likewise, Katheti is participating in the Porosea sports event, with its own running team, promoting once more the importance of sports and athletic ideals for our area.

We express our gratitude to Poros Municipality for granting us the use of the Syggrou building.
