The WWF Youth Group in Galatas

12 May 22

Habits related to our diet play an important role not only in our health but for the sustainability of our planet too. Based on that, the Youth Group of the environmental organization WWF visited Galatas between May 12th and 15th , 2022, as part of the Eat4Change project.  The 11 participants from all over Greece, with their two leaders, Marina Symvoulidou and Natalia Kalevra, stayed for a long weekend at the environmentally friendly Odyssey Eco Farm glamping.

Eat4Change is a project aimed at raising awareness and mobilizing consumers towards a more sustainable diet, such as the Mediterranean diet. Katheti as an organization that cares for the environment, played her part in that effort. Katheti’s team organized and delivered two educational workshops to the Eat4Change’s young participants and their leaders.

Goal setting and motivation (Motivation 4Change)

Sport psychologist Tasos Rodis delivered an interactive workshop about goal setting and motivation (Motivation 4Change).

The 11 young participants had the chance to go deeper and explore the importance of goal setting and motivation. They learned the different types of goals and how to set a goal in a SMARTS way. In addition, they explored how goal setting interconnects and interacts with both personal motivation and achievement. The young adults enjoyed the topic, and mentioned aspects of the seminar several times during the weekend.

Food photography and lightbox construction

Additionally, the group got involved in a fun workshop/game about food photography and lightbox construction. After a short presentation on the basic elements of food photography, the young adults spent time to construct their own lightbox.

That lightbox was used for the planned photography game they played during the weekend. Initially, participants were asked to photograph food ingredients on their natural place (e.g., an orange on the tree) and then to take a photo, making it more attractive to them or to a future consumer (e.g., a glass of orange juice decorated with a slice of orange and some green leaves.) A photography game that helped the participants to approach and observe nature through the lens of their cameras.

Katheti keeps working towards her vision, which is very specific. To promote our area’s development with respect for the local people, culture and environment. This vision can be achieved through continuous effort and collaborations, such as the Ec(h)o initiative and Project Resound, and through participating in other projects, such as INCIRCLE and Smart villages.
