Theater and chorus workshop

November 14th 2022

Let’s begin our own fairytale! Katheti organizes a theater and chorus workshop that will lead to a theater performance. The theater and the chorus workshops are organized by Katheti in collaboration with Olympia Pagoulatou and Sofia Zarani respectively. We will stage the theater play “Παραμύθι χωρίς όνομα” (Fairy tale without a name). We invite you to the meeting that will take place at Galata’s Junior High School on November 14th, at 5 pm. If you are interested in participating in the workshop, come to the meeting. We are waiting for you!

The collaboration

The theater workshop will be held in collaboration with Olympia Pagoulatou. She is a philologist, actress, theater motivator and Dramatic Art teacher. She is a valedictorian of the Athens Conservatoire Higher Drama School, and a graduate of the School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, with Masters in Theater Teaching. She worked as an actress for about fifteen years and as an assistant director on a large number of theater plays. In the last decade, she has been working mainly as a philologist in secondary education. As a theater motivator, she has worked with groups of children, teenagers and adults.

The chorus workshop will be held in collaboration with Sofia Zarani. She is a musician specializing in classical and modern singing. She holds a diploma in monody from the Philippos Nakas Conservatory and the London Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She has sung in opera performances and concerts in Greece and abroad, with orchestras or smaller independent musical ensembles. She has collaborated with young composers and poets by singing or recording their works for the first time. She has recorded children’s songs for Philippos Nakas publications and participated vocally in the discography of famous and less known artists. At the same time, for the past ten years, she has taught music theory and singing in public and private schools in London and to adults.

The play

The theater and chorus workshop is an excellent opportunity to familiarize ourselves with the arts of theater and music. The means to achieve this goal is an anti-war and timeless story that will touch us. “Παραμύθι χωρίς όνομα” is one of the most beloved works of Iakovos Κampanellis, based on the namesake story by Greek writer Penelope Delta. The Ministry of Culture and Sports, wishing to honor the author for his timeless work, declared 2022 “Year of Iakovos Kampanellis“. The music that will be taught in the workshop’s choral part is written by Manos Hatzidakis for the theater play.

The play’s story is an allegory for Greece, which is marred by political and social ills. The script approaches the modern Greek reality and its problems. It satirizes the way the country is run, but also the way the people react.

Katheti promotes culture and the arts in all their forms. This is also the reason why its actions are bonded with education and artistic expression! In the past it has successfully organized visual arts exhibitions, such as the “Bridges” and “Athlesis” exhibitions. It has also organized the theater documentation of Poros, Troizinia and Methana workshop, which led to the successful performance “Passage”.

This year we invite you to something different. Participate in the theater and chorus workshop, to give life to the story of Penelope Delta, one of the greatest Greek writers, adapted by Iakovos Kampanellis.
