Embroidery and Weaving Exhibition “Threads of Life”

3 July 24

How is the thread of the yarn connected to the thread of life? The threads lead us into the imagination and stories of three artists, through the exhibition of weaving and embroidery “Threads of Life”. Josiane Maisse, Eleni Pavlou and Maria Koularmani inspired by nature, the human psyche and their personal experiences, skillfully weave these elements into their works. The exhibition ” Threads of Life” will be hosted at Katheti from June 15 to July 3, 7:00-11:00 pm. The opening will take place on June 15, 8:00 pm. Free entrance.

“Depending on the season, mood and various surprises in my life, I recreate a tactile, luminescent world, like a second skin, in shapes that are sometimes bigger than me. Behind the theme of nature, I try to weave and make visible under the braided silk threads the labyrinth of our buried desires, well-hidden secrets, benevolent ghosts of the past and timid dreams of days to come.” -Josiane Maisse

Threads of Life

We are threads.

Threads of color, woven into dreams and experiences.

Each thread, a unique story.

Each story, a different view of the world.

We create.

We create with our hands, with our soul, with our imagination.

Each doll, each weave, a part of us.

An expression of ourselves, a connection to others.

We are threads.

Together, we weave a world full of color, imagination and love.

Welcome to our world.

-Maria Koularmani, Eleni Pavlou

Artists’ Bios

Josiane Maisse is an artist of French origin who lives between the Alps and Greece. She worked for twenty-five years in Paris in the documentary film industry, and was painting and drawing long before she discovered craft. Embroidery has now become almost as essential to Josiane as breathing.

Eleni Pavlou is a graduate of the Athens School of Philosophy and owner of the weaving workshop “Ergani”, which is located in Poros, on Ermou Street. At the same time, Eleni Pavlou teaches the art of weaving. She has participated in many activities of the Center for Creative Activities for Chidren (KDAP) of the Municipality of Poros, while for several years she has been organizing, in collaboration with other businesses, professionals and volunteers of the island, the Handicraft Festival in Ermou Street.

Maria Koularmani was born in Athens, originally from Poros. She studied painting and set design-costume design at the School of Fine Arts. She worked as a set designer-costume designer in theater, TV series and films. Maria has been living permanently on Poros for the last few years.

Katheti promotes the art of crafting with activities such as “Christmas Ornaments Workshop” and “We create Christmas decorations and hike together“, and articles such as “Handmade Creations“. At the same time, Katheti supports local artists through cultural events, such as the artistic events of this year’s Katheti’s summer program “Katheti Summer Arts 2024” and last year’s “Poros Arts Festival“, which the Municipality of Poros entrusted to Katheti.
