Fishing tourism
Fishing trips, a special experience
Fishing in the island and coastal regions of Greece has been a vital activity for thousands of years. But in recent decades it has been facing more and more problems. Recognizing both facts, Katheti, a member of the Ec(h)o consortium for the promotion of sustainable tourism, chose to feature an alternative option for the area. And this is fishing tourism. Fishing as a recreation offers a special experience to visitors and a complementary activity to professionals.
Our region, with its idyllic landscape, tradition in fishing and tourism, has the potential to become an important attraction for visitors with different interests. What better than a fishing trip with the Saronic Gulf as a view! This idea has already been implemented by two professional fishermen in the area. Tasos Ladas (Fishing trips Poros) and Giannis Anagnostopoulos (Poseidon fishing trips) present a different side of the area with their one-day excursions.

What does a fishing trip include?
The participants travel with a safe boat, with amenities which include kitchen, fridge, WC, shower, bunk bed, shading and fishing equipment. It’s essentially a fishing experience with different techniques: rod, handline, nets and longline.

This is followed by swimming at secluded beaches and coves, otherwise inaccessible. The food is cooked on board with the catch of the day and many other local products.
Sea stories, conversations and photos accompany you throughout the trip. In addition, there is the possibility to adapt the basic program according to the wishes of the participating group.
Tasos Ladas, describing the fishing trips he offers, tells us: “It is a different, special and authentic experience, both for me and for our visitors, since it combines everything that represents our country. Sun, mountain, sea and the best Greek hospitality!”
He continues: “The benefits of fishing tourism are many. The most important of these is a more secure income and the protection of fish stocks.”

Fishing tourism contributes significantly to the implementation of a sustainable development model in the area. The local research on sustainable tourism, carried out by Ec(h)o in collaboration with the advisory organization Project Resound, highlights many activities leading in this direction. Support Ec(h)o’s effort for the development and promotion of our area by liking its Facebook page. Katheti will publish a series of articles with local professionals offering activities and services in the context of sustainable tourism. Our aim is information and inspiration!
