Fish farming: The imminent threat of their expansion and the ignorance of risk

School of Educators: What is it?

Being an educator requires effort, ongoing learning and development. It is an easier process for persons who live in bigger cities where one can join courses or attend forums and conferences, but it can be a challenge for any teacher who lives and works in a rural area where there are fewer opportunities for lifelong learning. Katheti has thus decided to offer the educators of the local area the chance to attend some seminars in Galatas, without having to travel to Athens or to other nearby cities and without the need to enroll to costly online training courses.

School of Educators: What is it?

Katheti has been organizing training seminars and interactive workshops for teachers, parents, and for any person who is interested in education since late 2018. All those educational activities are part of the “School of Educators”, a series of training seminars which provide educators with the opportunity to enrich their knowledge and techniques.

The seminars are designed and delivered by experienced and qualified professionals who work in the field of education. The participants get an electronic folder with educational materials and notes along with a certificate of attendance. Plus, the participants are encouraged to contact Katheti and their trainers in case they need further assistance in applying the knowledge they have gained.

Let’s talk numbers: More than ten seminars have been delivered so far by six volunteer trainers. This equals to more than forty training hours full of interesting discussions, valuable input offered by the participants, and useful tools that teachers can now use in their class. The seminars of the “School of Educators” have been delivered in Galatas, at Katheti’s premises, whereas two seminars also travelled to Nafplio and were hosted at “Palamidis” Public Central Library, Fougaro Art Centre and “Kentrikon” café. Katheti’s collaboration with venues in other towns close to Galatas gives it the opportunity to enlarge its audience and to promote the local area and the new activities which are organized here.

Why to join the “School of Educators”?

There are several benefits as to why it would be a good idea to join the “School of Educators”. Apart from gaining valuable knowledge and skills, a person who participates in the series of training seminars can also get updates on innovative teaching methods and new concepts, as well as getting feedback for the methods they have already been applying. Moreover, teachers can create a supportive network and a community in the local area, they can organize various activities together and they can share tools and ideas.

Last but not least, a “School of Educators” participant can get a certificate of attendance which proves their commitment and their willingness to improve and evolve. In this way, participants can enjoy a sense of achievement while taking advantage of all benefits extra qualifications can provide them with.

What seminars are offered?

There is a wide range of topics covered in the “School of Educators”. Some of the topics include non-formal learning, lesson planning, peer mediation, stress management, career orientation, classroom assessment techniques, creativity, foreign language teaching, and more.

What about the methodology?

The majority of the seminars are interactive: this means that there is minimum contribution in the form of presentation by the trainers, whereas the participants work in groups, role-play and discuss about the topics introduced each time. Games, energizers and case studies are also used.

The trainers always present all theoretical concepts and give several examples.
