The “Bridges” that unite us
The painting and photography exhibition “Bridges: Where the past meets the present”
organized by Katheti started on June 18th on Poros. In the few days since its opening, it has been visited by more than 250 people. Permanent residents, people of local origin, Greeks and foreign vacationers. And already the “Bridges” that unite us have been transformed into something more tangible for every visitor. Nostalgia for some, getting to know the place for others. Pleasant surprise and admiration from everyone!
The exhibition juxtaposes old photographs with the modern landscape depicted by 14 local artists. Right next to the artist’s contemporary creations, are placed the old photos from which they were inspired. This combination has sparked many discussions among visitors as well as with the artists and organizers.
Our visitors and their response
People of different ages came together and shared memories and information.
The elders remembered the region of their own youth and narrated the sequence of events that changed or did not change the current picture. Younger people, observing within a few minutes the changes brought by the passage of decades and talking about them, were “filled” with new information. Some of them realized that nothing can be taken for granted or remain unchanged over time.
For the visitors, Greeks and foreigners, their presence in the art exhibition, apart from being an occasion to admire works by local artists, also offered an opportunity for a guided tour. How are the locations of the exhibition works connected, what will visitors see if they go to these places and, finally, how little have they seen from our place and how much more is waiting for them? So, the “Bridges” that unite us have begun to be built. They unite generations, people from different corners of the world, but also the places that compose our region.
The photographs of known and anonymous photographers who captured the area with their lens, preserving its memories for future generations, have become the occasion for a visual arts exhibition that creates many connections.
This is precisely Katheti’s objective with this event. To find out which are the “Bridges” that unite us. And taking the project one step further, we are preparing a surprise for you that is combined with a little gem we discovered in the international cultural conference Culture Geek.
