“The Life of Theseus” rendered by children
In April, the successful children’s play “The Life of Theseus” rendered by children of the Centers for Creative Activities of Troizinia and Methana was performed in Galatas and Methana. The play was part of the “Art-capsule” project, which was created by Katheti in collaboration with the Municipal Public Benefit Enterprise and the Children’s Centers for Creative Activities of Troizinia and Methana. A total of around 300 people watched the children perform a theater play with elements from the local mythology.
The theater play and its result
The theater play was divided into two parts. In the first part, the children from Troizinia presented the life of Theseus during his childhood up to his arrival in Athens. The first part of the play dealt with major obstacles he overcame and his famous feats. The second part of the play, performed by the children of Methana, included the myth about Theseus’s journey to Crete to kill the Minotaur. The play was concluded with the return of Theseus to Sounion cape and the tragic death of his father Aegeus.
The teachers’ efforts, as well as the eagerness and the real interest of all the children, produced a beautiful outcome. The audience enjoyed a successful children’s play with elements from mythology blended nicely together with music, dance and fun dialogues.
Contributors to the play
All children from both educational centers and their teachers, Maria Levidioti, Katerina Lazarou, and Giannis Papachatzis from Troizinia, and Athanasia Sahini, Maria Ioannou and Anastasia Karamani from Methana, did a great job!
We would also like to express our appreciation to all sponsors that contributed and supported a successful children’s play in different ways. Pavlou Brothers offered paints, Giorgos Kontogiannis offered construction materials, Eleni Maroula offered stationery material, and Christina Orfanidou made the theater costumes.
Katheti happily participated at the event. With this and similar activities, such as the Children’s Painting Workshop which was part of the Art-capsule project, the Children’s Fest, the children’s theater play “The small tailor of words” and the presentations of the book “Do books actually talk?“, Katheti seeks to collaborate with local bodies, as well as to support and strengthen children’s creative imagination.
Under the auspices and with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
