Two short fish farm documentaries and a video message from the Tasmanian documentarists.

On 10 November at 8:00 pm, we invite you all at the Cultural Center of Methana to join us at the screening of the two groundbreaking documentaries “The Heart of the Island” and “The Toxic Tsunami” that delve into the profound environmental and social impacts of fish farming. Before the documentaries screening, we will watch the message send to us by the documentarists, Mike Sampey and Kirsten Bacon, members of the Leave our Waters Collective. Mike and Kirsten were in Poros and Methana in October 2023 to film and create a powerful documentary shedding light on the environmental impact of fish farms on Poros and the neighboring areas. Both films will be in English with Greek subtitles. We look forward to seeing you all there!

Their documentaries “The Toxic Tsunami” and “The Heart of the Island” unveil the detrimental effects of fish farming in Tasmania. Their most recent film “The Heart of the Island” was a key component of island of Flinders’ successful battle to keep fish farming out of their pristine area. Armed with their cameras, Sampey and Bacon uncover the hidden truths about fish farming and the impact on local communities. Through the exchange of our similar experiences, we become inspired by one another’s strategies, resilience and commitment to our cause.

At Katheti, we’re dedicated to preserving the natural beauty and biodiversity of our beloved island, and this documentary will be a vital tool in our mission to protect our waters. As Poros is threatened by the POAY’s plans, Katheti supports our community’s joint effort thorough research and educational efforts regarding the negative impact of industrial fish farming. On World Ocean’s Day (8 June) 2023,  we screened Francesco De Augustinis’ documentary “Saving Poros”, as part of our multi-faceted communication campaign. On our YouTube channel, you can watch a series of international documentaries about fish farming to which we have added Greek subtitles and on Katheti’s website you can find all “Fish Farming Information” related to Greece and similar communities worldwide.

The event is organized by Katheti in collaboration with the Cultural & Educational Association of Methana and Volcanotrails.gr
