No industrial-scale fish farms at Poros!

April 4th, 2023

The establishment of industrial-scale fish farms at Poros is a decisive action for the future of the island, with significant effects on its character and the quality of its natural environment. As can be seen from examples from the rest of Greece, the local communities reject the creation of industrial-scale fish farms, but often end up in a difficult and unequal struggle. In the case of Poros, developments are expected soon and, perhaps, final decisions which are related to the upcoming elections. The local community clearly says: “No industrial-scale fish farms at Poros!” On the occasion of the above data, we take a look back at the most important actions that have been taken so far.

The local community clearly says: “No industrial-scale fish farms at Poros!” On the occasion of the above data, we take a look back at the most important actions that have been taken so far.

During these years, the Municipality of Poros has sent numerous letters to the Ministry of Environment & Energy, the Ministry of Tourism, to MPs and even to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The message “No industrial-scale fish farms at Poros!” is absolute and is based on three main reasons. They threaten the survival of the local society and economy. They are an extreme threat to our marine and coastal environment. It is a development direction that is imposed violently and conflicts with the wishes of the local society and its choices up to date.

Katheti has made the protection of the Poros environment from industrial fish farms our top priority. We aim to inform the public on the threat of the fish farms to Poros, our economy and our environment.
