Painting exhibition “The colors of the world”

1 August 23

For the second consecutive year, Gina Papadopoulou and her father, Christos Papadopoulos, will showcase their artworks at the exhibition titled “Colors of the World,” to be held at the Katheti building in Pounta of Poros. The exhibition will run from July 22nd to August 6th, 2023, daily from 7-11 pm.

The father, Christos Papadopoulos, who was born and resides in Poros, has left his artistic imprint within and outside Greek borders. His daughter, Gina Papadopoulou, a former lawyer, has been involved in painting for approximately the past ten years. She has participated in three group exhibitions to date, held two solo exhibitions (the second one last year, with her father in Poros), and has created cover art for various CDs, clothing items (shirts and dresses), and tote bags.

In the exhibition “Colors of the World,” father and daughter invite the audience to share with them the colors of a world they strive to keep alive, vibrant within their hearts, filled with intense hues, light, and life.

What the artists say:

“In a world that is gradually fading, where gray spreads everywhere, we have a duty to keep it alive. Our sole weapon is colors. We aim to capture its beauties, hoping that people will realize even now, we can save what can be saved. In a world plagued by wars, violence, pandemics, economic crises, climate change, environmental and ecological disasters, poverty, and deplorable conditions, glaring and provocative social and economic inequalities, lacking essential goods for millions of people in many parts of the planet, we, as artists, hold colors as our weapon. We reveal the fading beauties, day by day, with the hope that people will remember, yearn, awaken, and take action.

In the favelas, somewhere on the outskirts of Sao Paulo, where human life struggles with education and basic necessities like water, crime, poverty, and misery, Aurora ventilates her colorful misfortunes and sings Guantanamera, still hoping… Because even in hell, people can create small paradises.

More than ever, we, the artists, feel a responsibility to showcase through our artworks the disappearing world. A leopard accompanied by a bird, two blue tigers (endangered species), a rhinoceros that adores strawberries, a beautiful chameleon, a magnificent lionfish migrant, threatening marine life and, in turn, threatened by humans who discard their cigarettes into the sea, pots of geraniums under the bougainvillea of an island house. These are the images you will see at the exhibition, and we hope they will convey something to you, and touch you in some way. Help us bring colors back to this world.”

Katheti’s purpose is the sustainable development of the Poros and Troizina-Methana region through cultural and educational activities. Examples of such activities include the art exhibition “Bridges,” the photography exhibition “Athlesis,” the joint painting exhibition “In the Same Waters” by Christos Papadopoulos and Gina Papadopoulou, and the Poros Arts Festival 2023, organized by Katheti on behalf of the Municipality of Poros.
