Resolving Conflicts through Peer Mediation – 3rd part

16 November 19

On Saturday 16/11 and Sunday 17/11, Katheti welcomed the future Peer Mediation Team from Galatas Junior High School.

Mediation is a peaceful process for resolving a conflict/dispute. Peer mediation contributes to creating a communication and collaboration framework and it consequently prevents the occurrence of school violence of any form, aiming at a more peaceful school.

In the past school term, Katheti gave the opportunity to educators and children of the area to participate in a free seminar on Peer Mediation in the School. During the seminar, the participants were trained in the principles and the techniques of peer mediation, through presentations, experiential and interactive exercises, during which they contributed with their own experience.

Eleven children and three teachers from Galatas Junior High School were trained and this school term, teacher Maria Pateraki and the trained children are going to try and introduce Peer Mediation in Galatas Junior High School through the Health Education program approved by the Institute of Educational Policy. Read the interview that Maria Pateraki gave us on the occation of the introduction of Peer Mediation in Galatas Junior High School here.

In the past weekend, the children who participated in the seminar last year, as well as new members of the team freshened up their knowledge and honed their skills, so that they are ready for their mission!

Trainers were the volunteers Maria Louiza Andriakopoulou and Evgenia Saridou, members of “Dialogos Civil Company of Commercial and Family Mediation“. The seminar was aimed at the participants of last year’s seminar.
