Greek mythology formed through illustrated books we were reading and TV shows we were watching when we were children is part of our childhood memories. Mythological heroes such as Hercules, Theseus and Jason used to travel our imaginations to the ancient Greece. As part of the “Art-capsule” project, created by Katheti in collaboration with the Municipal Public Benefit Enterprise and Children’s Centers for Creative Activities (ΚΔΑΠ) of Troizinia and Methana, a theatrical play by the children with elements from the local mythology will be presented to the audience. Taking us back in time, Children’s Centers for Creative Activities (ΚΔΑΠ) of Troizinia and Methana will present the children’s play “The Life of Theseus” on Saturday, April 1st, at 18:00, at the amphitheater of Galatas High School. The theater play will be performed again on Sunday, April 2nd, at 18:00 at the Cultural Center of Methana. Both theatrical performances will be free of charge.

The Life of Theseus in Two Parts

Children’s play “The Life of Theseus” is divided into two parts. In the first part, «ΚΔΑΠ» Troizinias presents the life of Theseus during his childhood in Troizina. The years spent away from his father, King of Athens Aegeus. Chronologically, the first part of the play deals with the life of Theseus up to his arrival in Athens, after overcoming major obstacles and achieving his famous feats. The second part of the play, performed by «ΚΔΑΠ» of Methana, includes the mythological story about the Theseus’s journey to Crete in order to kill the Minotaur, with the support of Ariadne, daughter of Minoas. The play will be concluded with the return of Theseus to Sounio cape and the tragic death of his father, Aegeus.

Contributors of the play

The Children’s Centers for Creative Activities of Troizinia and Methana, after several months of rehearsals, are now in the final phase and ready to perform the theatrical play to the audience. The teachers’ efforts, as well as the willingness and the interest that came out from all the children, promises a beautiful theatrical outcome. Both, children and staff of «ΚΔΑΠ» hope that the audiences will enjoy the children’s efforts and the theatrical play. All children from both educational centers and their teachers Maria Levidioti, Katerina Lazarou, and Giannis Papachatzis from «ΚΔΑΠ» Troizinias, and Athanasia Sahini, Maria Ioannou and Anastasia Karamani from «ΚΔΑΠ» Methanon deserve a big “well done”. At this point, we would like to express our appreciation to all sponsors that contributed and supported the theatrical play in different ways. More specific, Pavlou Bros, who offered the painting colors, Giorgos Kontogiannis, who offered the construction material, Eleni Maroula and «Ουράνιο Τόξο», who offered stationery material, and last but not least Christina Orfanidou, who tailored the theater costumes.

Katheti happily participates at the event. With this as well as similar activities, such as the children’s painting workshop, part of the Art-capsule project, the Christmas children’s fest, the children’s theater play “The small tailor of words” and the book presentation “Do books actually talk?“, Katheti seeks to collaborate with local agencies, as well as to support and enhance children’s creative imagination.
