On July 8th at 7:30pm, the sold out children’s play is coming to Poros at the Ermou walkway. Katheti, in the context of the Poros Craft Festival, is bringing the childen’s play “Ο ραφτάκος των λέξων” (The Small Tailor of Words), by Antonis Papatheodoulou, presented by the theatre group Mikros Notos. It is aimed at kids aged 4 and over and entry is free, with optional donations for the play’s expenses. The theatre group Mikros Notos brings to life the book “Ο ραφτάκος των λέξεων” (The Small Tailor of Words) by Antonis Papatheodoulou, which was published by METAIΧMIO, through a play adaptation by Tina Giotopoulou, directed by George Tzavaras, music composition by Nikos Platyrachou and creative direction by Chryssa Diamantopoulou. The play was first performed at the Michalis Kakogiannis Foundation in October 2019 and is continuing on various stages around Athens and Greece with huge success.

About the story

Once, in a small town which still looked like a village, lived a unique tailor. He was unique, not only because there was no other tailor in town, but also because this tailor made clothes out of words! He would carefully choose his words for each personal separately and this way, by wearing the clothes he made, the people were always warm in the winter and always cool in the summer. Time went past however and the town grew and the people became hasty and forgetful and they forgot the small tailor. And the winter which came was so cold that none of their clothes could keep them warm. That’s when they remembered their small tailor, who would so beautifully sew words together and they felt warmth again. Because in the end, it is the words that keep warm, cool down and comfort every heart. The “Small Tailor of Words” is an original story by Antonis Papatheodoulou about the power of words and the need for human communication. It is a story that is tender and more relevant than ever. It talks about the love, comfort and the warmth that human words offer. It also fits perfectly in the spirit of the Crafts Festival, which is organized annually by Poros professionals.

About the play

Since 2012, the theatre group Mikros Notos has been creating interactive plays with live music using from well-known, traditional, but also innovative musical instruments, and draws its themes from stories, myths and folk fairy-tales. The play “The Small Tailor of Words”, which we will watch at the Crafts Festival, is a “handmade” play, which is as warm and colourful, as the small tailor’s blanket, which ultimately wrapped around and warmed up all the people of his town. The fairy-tale comes to life before our eyes through pure materials, live music, movement, interaction and pantomime.

Katheti, through its actions, such as the Poros, Troizinia and Methana theatre workshop, the play “Passage”, the play “The story of a dog called faithful” and the theater seminar “From the tribes of the world to our ‘tribe’”, aims to enhance our connection with theatre, an artform which contains all other artforms. Also, Katheti considers the interaction of children with art to be of great importance, hence, it organised the presentation of the children’s book “Do books actually talk?” by Eleni Petala and the Christmas Ornaments Workshop, in which the children learned how to make their own ornaments with various handcraft methods. The play is sponsored by the Poros Commercial Professional Association. Join Katheti’s work!
