Painting exhibition “From Poros to Cornwall”

10 August 23

What could the connection be of the sheltering harbors of Poros with the windswept, rocky shores of Cornwall? Our local folk painter George Klirodotakos, to whom Katheti gladly opens its doors for the painting exhibition “From Poros to Cornwall”. The paintings will be accompanied by his own poems. The exhibition will be hosted at Katheti’s venue in Punta, Poros, from August 10th to 20th and will be open to the public between 8 and 11pm. The opening will take place on Thursday August 10th at 8pm.

This exhibition is a “matchmaking” with great historical weight. George Klirodotakos has many memories of the historic building of Katheti, because it is located next to his father’s house and the tavern “Lucas”, where he worked until 2004. On the other hand, Katheti with great emotion and joy hosts in its gallery the works of this authentic local painter.

In the past Katheti has organized the group exhibitions “Bridges” and “Athlesis” and the joint painting exhibition of Gina and Christos Papadopoulos “The Colors of the World“. Moreover, the photography exhibition “Under the Starry Sky” by Vaggelis Kaikas and the group mixed visual arts exhibition “Transformations” are part of this year’s Poros Arts Festival, the co-organization of which was entrusted to Katheti by the Municipality of Poros.

George Klirodotakos’s biography

George Klirodotakos paints seascapes and overall themes from nature with watercolor on paper. He started painting in the 1970s in Cornwall, which he visited almost every winter for about 20 years, until 2000. Cornwall’s landscapes captivated and inspired him, and in the summer, he painted landscapes of Poros. His other great love is dancing. He has been dancing traditional Greek dances since he was 24 and, through this hobby, he has travelled the world, made friends, met important people and collaborated with them. He participated in theater plays, TV series and Greek films, with the most notable being the film “Operation Apollo” (1968), with Elena Nathanail and Thomas Fritz, directed by George Skalenakis. In the summer of 2023, George Klirodotakos participated in the group painting and photography exhibition that took place as part of the “Lemon Tree Festival“.
