Poros Arts Festival – “I Want to Hold Your Hand” theater play
The Beatles song “I want to hold your hand” inspired Tasos Iordanidis to create a play starring two illicit lovers and their encounters in a love hotel. The play is directed by Thaleia Matika and the two of them star in the play, which is being performed for the third year and has won the First Theatre Award for a New Greek Play (2022) at the ALL4FUN Public Theater Awards. On Saturday, July 15th, at 9pm, we will have the opportunity to watch the play at the Syggrou open theater on Poros, as part of the Poros Arts Festival, which raises money for little Valeria in all its events.
Theater around the world has often dealt with the issue of human relations, with gender needs, wants and duties, perhaps because the audience directly or indirectly can easily identify with the topic and be emotionally motivated. The two characters invite us to balance between laughter and tears and to realize, through their encounters, that what we all ultimately seek is meaningful companionship. Someone to hold our hand. Will they succeed?
Part of the Poros Arts Festival organization has been entrusted for this year by the Municipality of Poros to Katheti. Katheti supports theatre culture of the area with workshops and performances for children and adults. In the past we have presented to the local audience “Small Tailor of Words“, “Passage” by Katheti’s amateur theater group, the result of the theater workshop “Theater documentation of Poros, Troizinia and Methana”, “Story of a dog called faithful“, with Kostas Gakis, while in the same period we organized with him the theater workshop “From the tribes of the world to our ‘tribe’”. Poros Arts Festival also presented the puppet show “Mermaid, Little Mermaid” and two one-act plays by I. Kampanellis.
