Painting Exhibition “The Seabed and its Inhabitants”
How impressive would it be to see the seabed and the wonderful creatures that live there through the creative eye of an accomplished painter? Jellyfish, octopuses, sea turtles and starfish show us around their home and take us on a journey into their deep blue kingdom. This harmony of underwater life and the natural beauty of our area prompted Ivi Gabrielides to create a series of artworks that she presents in the painting exhibition “The seabed and its inhabitants”. The exhibition will be hosted at Katheti’s venue in Pounda between 16 and 30 September and will be open to the public daily, between 7 and 10pm. The opening will take place on Saturday September 16th at 8pm.
The natural environment, the flora and fauna, the volcanic rocks and the sea of Poros continuously inspire the painting of Ivi Gabrielides. Ivi studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and the Central Institute of Restoration (I.C.R.) in Rome. While taking part in individual and group exhibitions in Italy, Germany and Greece from 1983 until today, she was also teaching Painting Conservation at the Technological Education Institute of Athens, participating in international conservation conferences and working as a technical consultant for museum exhibition applications. Her roots are from the Middle East (Aleppo, Syria), the place where she was born, and which is a constant point of reference in her art. Ivi lives, works and enjoys life on Poros since 2011.
Katheti and Ivi Gabrielides have decided to dedicate this painting exhibition to the protection of the Poros environment from the industrial fish farms plans. Learn everything about the Areas of Organized Development of Aquaculture Activities (POAY) plan through Katheti’s dedicated webpage.
In the past, Katheti has organized the group exhibitions “Bridges” and “Athlesis” and the joint painting exhibition of Gina and Christos Papadopoulos “The Colors of the World”. Recently, Katheti has also opened its doors to the local folk painter George Klirodotakos, with the painting exhibition “From Poros to Cornwall”. Moreover, the mixed visual arts exhibition “Transformations” is part of Poros Arts Festival 2023, the co-organization of which was entrusted to Katheti by the Municipality of Poros.
