Local Mentors

The project “Mentoring at Katheti” enables local professionals to share their experience with the young people of the area. Many times, especially at a young age, we face a dilemma regarding what profession to select. “Which path should I choose?” This is a question that at one point concerned most of us. But, even if we know our path, the experience and advice of a relevant professional may prove valuable. That’s why Katheti started featuring almost every month written interviews and short videos of local mentors.

  1. The first part includes the written interviews that we take almost monthly with the occasion of events or activities in the area. All the interviews are either by locals or by people with professional association with the area.
  2. The second part includes the short videos of mentors of the area in which professionals, in the role of the mentor, are introducing themselves to the local youth, as well as presenting their profession and their ideas.

Entrepreneurs in many fields, educators, actors, filmmakers, lawyers, police officers, captains, painters, art historians, writers, martial arts instructors and many others shed light on aspects of their profession. From the unconventional or ambitious profession to the traditional one, the secret to success lies in whether it fills and makes happy the person who chooses it.

The kaleidoscope of professions

An opera singer tells us that an important objective of her work is to help people look inside themselves and make room for joy. A painter urges us to take advantage of all the opportunities that feed our creativity. The need for creation also pushed a soap maker to choose what she does, whilst a cooking technician refers to memories and aromas. A food technologist-agriculturist finds the freelance profession fascinating and adventurous. Trade brings you into contact with people and sales. It requires morals, respect and dignity. Entrepreneurship is linked to patience, perseverance and will. An essential element is the offering of quality and continuous development. Training never stops for a captain, who lives in a team with a strict structure. But our mentor sees the sea as something very important, especially for our people. A policeman also has a difficult profession, technically and conscientiously, but for our mentor people come first. Personnel managers are the intermediate link between management and staff. They step into the shoes of both and must have integrity. Teachers also act as a link between students and knowledge. They always have their needs in mind. Below are the links for the interviews and the videos.

And the list is constantly enriched

This section is constantly enriched with new mentors and professions. The purpose of Mentoring at Katheti to inspire and guide young people in their professional choices. At a later stage, in collaboration with local professionals, there will be organized lectures and discussions, as well as “pairings” between mentors and youth, for a more direct counseling process.
