A year full of creativity, contribution and dedication
2023 Accomplishments
A year full of creativity, contribution and dedication is coming to an end. Our new beginning in our new home was accompanied by a variety of activities aimed at promoting culture, seeking knowledge, enhancing creativity and protecting the environment.
Due to the threatening potential for the establishment of an Area of Organized Aquaculture Development (POAY) at Poros, this year has been dedicated to our region’s environment and its protection from industrial fish farms. As part of the battle against POAY:
- We carried out thorough research regarding the potential impact of the POAY, the results of which will be announced very soon. We promoted and screened Francesco De Augustinis’ documentary “Saving Poros“. At the same time, we continue our multi-faceted communication campaign through our communication channels. We also gathered in one place, on Katheti’s website, all “Fish Farming Information“.
- We worked with director Mike Sampey and producer Kirsten Bacon to create a documentary against fish farming on Poros. We also organized the screening of two of their documentaries on Poros and Methana to inform residents about POAY’s plans.
- We carried out clean-up and waste recording activities at the beaches of Vagionia Poros and Agia Sotira Galatas, as part of the Citizens Science “Adopt a Beach” project by WWF Hellas and in collaboration with KDAP Poros and local schools.
- We created the “Calendar 2023“, featuring our region’s fishing boats through the lens of local artists. A journey into the blue of the sea and at the same time a protest against POAY.
Katheti, in opposition to the industrial development advocated by POAY for our region, supports and promotes the development of sustainable tourism, that respects the environment and the needs of the local population:
- In the summer of 2023, the Municipality of Poros entrusted the co-organization of the three-month cultural Poros Arts Festival, with great success and a warm response from the people to all our events!
- In addition, we organized the painting exhibitions “The Colors of the World“, “From Poros to Cornwall” and “The Seabed and its Inhabitants” in our new home.
- On our website you will also find a digital calendar with all the local events as well as pages highlighting the region’s sights and activities, products and arts.
- We held weekly arts activities, such as Poros hasapiko and folk dances lessons, vocal ensemble workshop and group screening evenings in the winter.
- “Sustainable Diet” workshop, “Project Resound“, “Sokakia” and other activities highlight the culture, arts, attractions and products of the region.
- We facilitated the professional and personal development of local residents with seminars and workshops, such as the Entrepreneurship Webinar series and the educational seminar “Learn to Exercise Properly”.
Through art events, environmental actions, educational seminars and weekly activities for all ages, we can continue to cultivate and enhance the creativity and skills of the community. With your support, you can also contribute to our efforts for the sustainability and well-being of the region.
