August 26th, 2023
August 2023 was full of classical music on Poros, with important music events returning after quite some time. Among them, the 11th Saronic Chamber Music Festival, which took place between 18 and 22 August in the Saronic Gulf, offering a wonderful musical experience to its audience and renewing their meeting for 2024.
The Saronic Chamber Music Festival is an annual meeting of an international ensemble of world-class musicians dedicated to the exploration and performance of great chamber music pieces.
The critically-acclaimed Leondari Ensemble together with guest artists present a series of concerts at the height of the Greek summer on Hydra, Poros, Galatas and Methana.
The Leondari Ensemble is comprised of internationally acclaimed musicians from Europe, North America and Australia. Its members perform regularly with many of the world’s most renowned ensembles, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, ARC Ensemble, the English Chamber Orchestra and the Vienna Piano Trio.
The Saronic Chamber Music Festival was founded by Greek violinist, Jannis Agraniotis, and Australian violist, Francis Kefford. Jannis is a regular performer with the Greek National Opera. He has appeared in all of the major Greek concert halls and as a recitalist and chamber musician in Germany. Francis is a frequent performer with the UK’s leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Opera House Orchestra, the Aurora Orchestra and the English Chamber Orchestra.
Katheti loves and supports music, through its activities such as the Synthesis & Anasynthesis music workshop with Yannis Loukos and the choral workshop that led to a concert with the songs from “Παραμύθι χωρίς όνομα” (A Tale Without a Name). Furthermore, Poros Arts Festival 2023, which Poros Municipality assigned to Katheti to co-organize, was full of music events: The classical music happening at Poros Clocktower with Sofia Zarani, the “Piano Concert for Valeria“, with Achilleas Wastor and the participation of Elisavet Mantopoulou, and the music concert “World Music“, with Demos Koumaridis, Andreas Boutsikakis and Evdokia Rapti.
